    Hunger by Roxane Gay

I first found out about this book just over a month ago via Twitter. And immediately thereafter I discovered that Roxane Gay was going to be in Atlanta on her book tour later that same week. Unfortunately I couldn’t go because of my teaching schedule but I quickly ran out to the nearest bookstore and bought Hunger.  I was already in the middle of reading It by Stephen King (and still am), but when I went to LA I decided to bring this book along for the ride. On the way…

    Life as an Introvert

I like being alone, whether I’m reading, knitting, writing, filming, doing a home yoga practice, or just sitting and thinking. When I socialize, I much prefer one-on-one or small groups. But even then, I need time to myself afterwards. I can be hesitant to try new things. I think before I speak, sometimes too much that I end up sitting there saying nothing because I can’t fully put my words together. When I do speak, I often worry what I said was stupid, could be misinterpreted, or wasn’t what I…

    Bringing Hygge Into My Life

At the beginning of the year, I read The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well by Meik Wiking. The entire time I was reading, I kept thinking, “Yes! This is exactly how I aspire to live!” In case you’re unsure what hygge is (and it’s pronounced hoo-guh or hooga, because I definitely said it wrong at first), the introduction of the book tries to sum it up. It is a bit tricky to define, but here’s a quote to help: Hygge is about an atmosphere and…

    Favorite Books of 2016

I like to read, a lot. I always set a reading goal for the year and track it on Goodreads. This year I chose 50.  I was able to relatively easily accomplish that amount last year, so I had at it again in 2016. I’m happy to say I’m currently on #52. Of all of these books, I read a lot of amazing stories and discovered some wonderful writers. Let’s start with Non-Fiction. Side note – I would like to say these are the best books I read this year, not…

    The Iliad Bookshop

I am back from my first trip to LA for teacher training! I have a lot of thoughts from the week including the election, the power of yoga, and how we view mental illness as a society. I will be getting into those subjects in future blog posts, but today I just need to let the serious stuff go. I need to relax, unpack, and recalibrate myself before getting back into my daily routine at home. So, let me tell you about a magical place called The Iliad Bookshop. I…

Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill

I usually do book reviews at the end of the month, but I can’t wait that long to share my thoughts on Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill. I first heard about Louise while listening to one of my favorite podcasts that I have raved about many times before, Ctrl Alt Delete by Emma Gannon. They talked about hustling for success, but also the need to take care of yourself while doing so, aka, my current life (just sub yoga/blogging/YouTube for writing phenomenal books). I finally started reading Louise’s first book…

JULY FAVS:  Ctrl Alt Delete Review

I have been obsessed with Emma Gannon for a few months now. I featured her podcast with the same name as her book in my April Favorites video. I’m not sure if she started her podcast to help promote her book, but it has become incredibly successful on it’s own. In her podcast, she interviews individuals that have utilized social media in their work. Emma and her guests use social media as a jumping off point, but also talk about many other important issues. But I’m not here to talk…

    JUNE FAVS: Aim True Review

Friday I will be posting my June Favorites video on my YouTube channel, so go make sure you are subscribed and please share it with anyone you think might be interested! As a sneak peek, I wanted to talk about my favorite book from the month, Kathryn Budig’s Aim True. Many of the books I have shared so far either on here or on my channel have been fictional, but this book is a combination of self help, healthy living, cookbook, and partly autobiographical. There is a little something for everyone!…
