    Ardha Chandrasana, Half Moon Pose

It’s been a little while, but I am back with another pose breakdown for you! This pose, Ardha Chandrasana, or Half Moon Pose is one of my favorites. I am a bit biased because it’s a moon pose. But I also love how it requires laser sharp focus, no matter where I am in my practice. It’s a standing pose, it’s a balancing pose, and it requires a whole lot of core engagement. Let’s get into some of Iyengar’s thoughts on it’s benefits, taken from Light on Yoga: It tones…

    Virabhadrasana III, Warrior III Pose

Over this past weekend I gave a lot of thought about what it means to be a warrior. I went to a panel discussion with Cultivate Union, a local non-profit that aims to grow the impact of yoga and meditation on the community. The discussion was about yoga and money. Anything involving money is a complicated subject. On the panel sat 4 strong, amazing women that have created their own businesses in the health and wellness community. Despite all of them coming from different backgrounds with a range of experience,…

    Urdhva Dhanurasana Video Tutorial

I have another yoga video up on my channel for you! This video tutorial breaks down Urdhva Dhanurasana, one of my favorite backbends that opens the door to many others. While a more “fundamental” backbend, it is quite difficult. Despite needing strength and flexibility in your shoulders, open hip flexors and quads, a lot of flexion in your wrists is required too. I show you 3 variations, all with different degrees of flexion in the wrist. The only props you’ll need are a blanket and a wall. If you don’t have…

Marichyasana III Prep, Sage Marichi’s Pose 3

Everyone loves a good twist, myself included. We often think of twists as detoxifiers, but they are also great for spine health. Twists also stimulate digestion and restore circulation. According to Light on Yoga, the full version of this twist has many more benefits including, …splitting backaches, lumbago, and pains in the hips disappear rapidly. The liver and the spleen are contracted and so are toned and cease to be sluggish…It also helps to reduce the size of the abdomen. You can guarantee I will place at least one seated…

    Uttanasana, Intense Stretch Pose

As I learned in a Sanskrit workshop, there is often more than one definition for a word. According to the breakdown in Light on Yoga, Intense Stretch Pose is the chosen translation for Uttanasana, but we often know it as Standing Forward Fold. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this pose in the past. When your hamstrings are tight, it can be uncomfortable. When I was having low back issues a couple years ago, this pose felt like it would kill me. But now that my hamstrings are (fairly) open, I…

    Tadasana, Mountain Pose

In case you don’t follow me on social media, Earth Day is Saturday so I am taking the entire week to gear up. On Instagram stories, I’m sharing a sustainability tip every day. On my YouTube channel, I uploaded a video about sustainability in the kitchen, which I will share below at the end of this post. So for today, I wanted to take the time to find inspiration through our yoga practice. What could be a better pose to look at than Tadasana? This pose is also the pose…
