Once I learned about Ayurveda, a historically rooted natural healing system, I became fascinated with different ingredients that could be used instead of the chemical-laden bath and beauty products I had been using all my life. Some of the swaps were easy – oils instead of lotions and using castile soaps instead of ones that dry out your skin. Others required a bit more research.
I have an interesting relationship with the dentist after braces ruined my enamel, so I was excited to try a natural toothpaste alternative. Little did I know there were tons of toothpaste recipes out there! I have done all the work for you and sifted through countless videos and tutorials to come up with a super easy, quick recipe for you.
Here’s the recipe:
• 3 tablespoons quality, unrefined coconut oil
• 3 tablespoons pure baking soda
• 5-10 drops of a good quality, organic peppermint oil
Then you just blend them all together. Like I said, super easy!
The baking soda is a gentle abrasive for your teeth, and is actually less abrasive than most store-bought toothpastes when used correctly. It also helps neutralize the Ph level in your mouth. Coconut oil has natural antibiotic qualities to keep your mouth clean and fresh!
