Relax – New Class & Free Mini Sequence

This week, I’m participating in Mental Health Week at a local high school. I am incredibly honored that I get to speak to these kids and share the practice of yoga. As you all know, mental health is incredibly important to me, and let’s be honest – who wasn’t a big ball of stress when they were a teenager?

As I’ve been moving through the planning process, I’ve been reflecting on how different styles of yoga are more effective depending on mood.

When Natural Remedies Are Not Enough

As someone in the wellness world, I feel the pressure to heal anything and everything naturally. However, I believe in finding a balance. Western medicine can support the Eastern medicine practices I choose. And vice versa. We don’t have to live in extremes. Back in May I made the decision to start taking something for my OCD and anxiety. Yes, I am a yoga teacher and I take Zoloft. And you know what? It was the best decision I could have made for myself.

Why I Talk About My Mental Health

In the US, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, while in the UK, this week is Mental Health Awareness Week. For those of you that don’t know, I have anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. While I have not written about it extensively on here, I post updates and struggles on my Instagram and have uploaded a couple of videos to my YouTube channel, including “OCD & Me”. I’m also honest with my students and have used anxiety as a theme for class on multiple occasions.

Alcohol and the Holidays

As I’ve been incessantly going on and on about, the holiday season is fast approaching. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and from there, it’ll be the end of the year before we know it. With this time of year comes holiday parties, celebrations, brunches, and then New Years Eve, all of which alcohol can be a big part of. Let me go ahead and say it up front – I rarely drink alcohol. If I do, it’s usually for a special occasion or on vacation, and even then it’s one and done.
